Hi all I was just about to install a USED hard disk in to my new WHS when the format failled having played with it a bit in the whs and my workstation I have been unable to format it. I do belive that a low level format should help fix it. Any Ideas on this. If I am to low level does any one know of any free or shareware software that is good at this job.
Hi Ian, you could try to use disk management (on the computer, to which the disk is attached, click Start/Run and type diskmgmt.msc. Select the drive you wish to handle and try to delete the volume on the disk. If this succeeds try to create a new volume and format it (no quick format!). In case this succeeds without error, you can try to add the disk again via WHS console. If it fails on any point and you can be sure, that the cables and connections are not the reason, the disk has no place in a server, on which you want to store your important data. Best greetings from Germany Olaf
