Hardware activation Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed a new video card and a second data drive.  That was enough to kick out my Vista activation for my business copy.  Its a pain because I only got a 1 day notice and its expiring today.  I've tried to automatically activate and it won't take the product ID number.  I've tried to activate using the phone system.  That won't work either.  After the phone activation kicks out I'm put in the queue for telephone support help but then I get hung up on in the queue.  I haven't been able to connect to an actual person to help in microsoft and the phone and automatic activation options won't work.

What can I do here?  This is a store bought copy from office max for Vista business full version.

Please post the results of this diagnostics tool:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012  That’ll help me understand why you’re unable to validate.  Also, can you tell me what error code you get when you try to validate?  It’ll be gray and in brackets at the end of the message on the validation failure web page.

    Thanks,

  • Ditto that - just installed 2 new HDs and now my Vista Business has warned me that I must activate it within 3 days or it will stop working. When I type in my key it returns with an error saying that "The product key you typed is already in use".

This is rubbish - why does windows de-activate itself when you add some more storage? It's a pretty common thing to do. Makes me wonder if I should move to linux; you'd never get this hastle from that and you don't even have to pay for it...

Any advice on resolving this would be appreciated
