My DELL (XP Home edition, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD, 2.8GHz Pentium) is attached to my HPHomeServer, and is in the backup area. It gets to 36%, hangs, and then the backup says it can go no further!

Have you tried running chkdsk /r on the hard drive?

I discovered that it likes the C:\ drive, which it backsup OK, but the extra HDD it hates - chkdsk /r it got to stage 5 on this (verifying file data) and stalled. Stages 1-4 of chkdsk were OK. So, I have removed the secondary HDD from the backup regime,
and it now works fine! Thanks for the input.
