Live Mesh Reinstallation after Reinstall RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I reinstalled Windows on my machine which had some live mesh folders on a non-system disk d:. These folders synced to Live desktop and another computer (which is now no longer in the mesh).

Now, having reinstalled Windows (7) on C drive, the files are still in the folders on D drive. These folders shouldn't have changed at all.

What I want to know is whether the mesh will start trying to overwrite these files (albeit with the same files) if I reassociate them with the folders on my live desktop. There are Gbs of files and I want to know on what basis it'll start rewriting the files (cos it'll kill my internet connection costs if I do it at home) and under which circumstances the Mesh will think there are conflicts.

Does anyone know the answers to these questions?

  • It should see the files as already existing in the Mesh when you "merge" the location on the reisntalled machine that has been added to the Mesh. I recently added the other side of a Dual-boot machine to my Mesh and pointed the shared fodlers to fodlers already meshed on the PC when booted to the other OS and no conflicts occurred and it did not appear to me that the files were uploaded/downloaded through the mesh as they were unchanged.

  • Small note: if these files have been changed in any way, for example by a music indexing program or similar, then these files will appear as conflicts.

The best way to check is to try and merge the two folders and see what happens - you'll either get reports of conflicts (before data is exchanged, so no need to worry about your files), in which case you can cancel and remove the folder from local sync, or nothing - and the folder will just go back to being synced with the mesh.

Let us know how things turned out!
