LiveMesh Remote Desktop leaves local machine with black screen and mouse pointer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Remote Desktop from work computer to home computer works great (both Windows 7). To disconnect I either logoff or just close the livemesh remote desktop window, then ,when I return home, my desktop is black and there is no apparent way to get a login screen other than to power cycle my home machine. I have multiple monitors at home, and I have tried only using one monitor before connecting but I still have the same issue. The only workaround I have found is to run "shutdown /r /t 1" on the remote desktop from work. Also, not even doing remote desktop (mstsc) from other home machines can bring back the login screen (although I am able to connect and operate my livemesh enabled home computer).

    Also, whenever I do use the "Screen Resolution" control panel applet to go from multi-mon to a single display, the "Screen resolution" applet gets resized to a very thin window (just title bar and frame).

    Are these known issues? am I doing something wrong? When is the final version coming out? I love Live Mesh!

    Thanks,
    Paul.

  • I've posted a workaround that worked for me. I just entered my password and pressed enter and it logged me in. Thanks for pointing me to that bug report.

  • Hi Paul

    This bug report I read the other day appears to be similar;

    I suggest you vote it up, while also keeping tabs on the 'Workaround' section. You might also want to post the "shutdown /r /t 1 before disconnecting via R/D" as a workaround -- a hard reset is currently the only reported way to temporarily resolve the issue.

    Hope that helps!

  • Paul, there's an internal alias for you to contact for issues with Live Mesh.

    Is there an internal alias Paul can use to find that out as well? I'm sure we'd all like to know :P

  • Quite possible, but he won't be allowed to tell us. :-)
    For the record, I don't know what the future holds, either.

  • I posted the following workaround on the connect site.

    This time I think this is a real workaround. Before closing the Remote desktop window click on "Show Desktop on Remote Computer” (after this it should say "Hide Desktop on Remote Computer”). Then when I got home, I had a login screen from which I could unlock my computer. Yeah.

    Interesting, Paul. I've never considered that idea. I don't hide the desktop on the remote PC, but I've got a few PCs that end up in the state of a blank screen after disconnect.
