  • Consider this - do you want to be certified in technology that's some 7+ years old, or do you want to be competent in what many companies are now going to from a client/server standpoint?

FWIW, I'd strongly recommend going for the MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator.  It's only one extra exam (a client exam on either Vista or Windows 7) and a slightly different PRO level exam.

Also, keep in mind that much of what you'd learn about Server 2008 is backwards compatible to Server 2003.

  • Yes.  Keep in mind you'll need to take 70-643, 70-647 and a client exam (70-680/70-620/70-624).

  •  I have to take Exam 70-646 after 70-648?

  • That's correct.  To earn the MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator designation, you need to complete/pass four exams.

  • It seems 100% here say to go for the latest and greatest.  As I said, do you want to learn server technology that's approaching the end of it's lifecycle, or learn the latest.  Common sense would say to work towards the MCITP 2008 Enterprise Administrator.

  • Hi Boris,

I think the best way to answer your question is to determine what will make you more valuable to your employer?  Are they going to be impressed that you are an MCSE on Windows 2003 or would they be equally if not more impressed with an MCITP certification.  Like Charles mentioned, much of what you will learn in preparing for the MCITP certification is applicable to Server 2003.

So, I would have to agree with Charles and pursue the MCITP certifications.  It is better to start toward the MCITP certifications rather than expend money and time toward a soon-to-be legacy certification.

  • Hi Boris --

I am in the upgrade camp. MCITP is all the rage, and is where everyone is going. I think your time is much better spent going after your MCITP and who knows about your job? You may end up moving on soon, and then you get dumped into a pool of 100 other job applicants, half of which might have their MCSE, but only you and few other people will stand out with an MCITP 2008. Go for it. I totally think it's worth it if you are looking ahead to the future. And to quote Charles, I will also reiterate that everything you learn is backwards compatible.

  • Hi

I think you should finish your MCSE on Windows Server 2003 then upgrade to Windows Server 70-649(MCSE only) and 70-646 (server administrator) or 70-647 (Enterprize Server) and a client machine 70-620 (Vista) or 70-680 (Windows 7 client). Remenber candidates who holds both certifications will be in demanded.

    Hope this help.
