Mesh stop synching RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

For the past several months I have been using FolderShare and it mostly worked great...
I decided to switch to Mesh because of the new features...

I set up everything, but for some reason the files are not being fully synced.
Instead of the files, I see Live Mesh Placeholder files.

The status of all the devices shows that they are synchronized, while they are not.

Anyway to reset the sync or maybe see a status bar.

I have a lot of files (around 45 GB) while most are my music (mp3) and pictures.

I set it not to sync with the Live Desktop device as I have only 5GB of space on it and I don't need the data available while I am away...

    Any one has any idea?

This service really has a great potential... I just hope I can get it to work...

    Thanks...

  • Hi Eric,

You are correct, by "P2P only" I meant syncing between your computers without including the Live Desktop (sorry that wasn't clearer).  It does sound to me like you've hit the bug I mention above.  You can try setting the folder in question to sync with all your devices (including the Live Desktop), but since the folder is 45GB we can't guarantee that the bug won't reappear once you've filled your 5GB Live Desktop quota (once the quota is filled, all remaining files sync P2P).  If you're willing to give it a shot, though, please let us know how it works out.

The other option, of course, is to wait for the next Live Mesh update, which will contain a fix for this issue.  The next update should be released fairly soon, hopefully within the next few weeks.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Ben.

  • Hi Eric,

The first question is: Are some of your files synced, or are none of them synced?  If you're seeing partial synchronization (i.e., some files are synced while others are not), how long have you been waiting for them to sync?  45GB will take a while to synchronize.

There is another possible explanation, though, if none of your files are syncing, or if you've waited a reasonable amount of time and still are not seeing any sync progress: we currently have a bug that is affecting some people where files set to sync P2P only are not syncing at all.  We have a fix for this that will be in our next release (which is coming 'soon'), but unfortunately there are no good workarounds at this time.  Please let me know if you think you've been affected by this bug, though I'm afraid that all we can do at this time is to ask for your patience.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • Thank you very much for you fast response...

Basically, I am not synching anything with the Live Desktop. I am only synching between my laptop and PC (They are Vista Premium and Vista Ultimate).
I managed to get it to startsynching yesterday somehow but the minute I shut my laptop down it stops and won't resume when I turn it back on.
The reason why I don't sync with the Live Desktop is the 5GB limitation...
The Live Mesh Placeholder are on my PC, but no synchronization occurs...
It started, but when I shut my laptop off it does not resume. FolderShare would detect that and sync properly...
I just decided to upgrade to Mesh few days ago as I am planning to add more computers to my Mesh...

So if by P2P you mean synching only between the PC's without the Windows Live Desktop - then yes, it happens to me to.

Would it help if I activate the synching to the Live Desktop, even that I only have 5GB there?

    Thank you very much,
