Backup sticks at 13% RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.  Of recent my server is not backing up my three client pc's.  When I start a manual backup it starts then stops at approximately 13% each time (takes awhile to get to 13% too).  Saw a post on running check disk....did that and no problems reported.  I then saw post suggesting delete backup files from the server.  I have done that to no avail.  I then in frustration did a complete reinstall last night....still same problem.

    Any ideas?

First, did you follow this FAQ post regarding chkdsk (specifically, did you use the /r switch and run it on each drive, using the script provided)?

If so, did anything happen around the time the problem started (i.e. a power outage)?  You say you "deleted backup files".  Did you delete the entire backup database (by following the steps in the Home Computer Backup and Restore Technical Brief)?

As for the complete reinstall, you mean you did a Server Reinstallation of the server, right (and not any of the client PCs)?

  • Thanks for your reply.  Let me try to answer your questions.

The only thing that happened around the time of this was that my server storage was almost full.  I added a new laptop recently and thought perhaps it was just an issue of not enough memory.  I added another usb hard drive and that did not help.  There was a power outage recently but dont recall specific timing in relation to the issue.

I am running the check disk again on the server.  What i am not sure of is what am i looking for when done?  I ran check disk on one of the clients also...just not sure what i am looking at.

I did follow the tech brief for deleting the backups and I did the reinstall of the WHS server.

Scripts are running now on the server.  I am illiterate when it comes to check disk.  If you can tell me what I am looking at that would be helpful.
