[UWP][C#]App for the Windows.Launch contract failed with error:Invalid value for registry RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have created an UWP application, written in C#, we deploy the APP onto many tablet via PowerShell (side load). Under rare circumstances, the app cannot be started and leaves no log nor error message anywhere except for an entry in the event log:

App for the Windows.Launch contract failed with error:Invalid value for registry.

Any whatsoever little hint, help, guess, or master answer would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

We are lack of info to know what happens. Can you reproduce this on any other tablets or on any other UWP apps? Sounds to me it is more likely a system issue instead of app issue. By the way, if you remote debug your app on that tablet, will you be able to reproduce this?

    Best regards,

    Barry

  • Hello Barry,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Some tablets got this issue with the UWP app, It never happen while debug it .

If we meet the issue on one tablet, the app can't be launched until we upgrade the app version.

    Best regards,

    Jerry.

  • @Jerry,

Are you able to find any info on that tablet from Event Viewer? Does that tablet installs some anti-virus software? From your description it looks like the UWP app is corrupt on that machine in registry. And when you update the version maybe it is installing a new copy of the app on that machine which makes everything work again. So we have to find some way to understand what happens here.

    Best regards,

    Barry

  • Hi Barry,

The error from the Event Viewer is:

The error from the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational is:

The McAfee is installed on the tablet.

    Thanks for you feedback.

  • Hi Jerry,

Thanks for your great info. However that does not help for us to understand how it happens for a corrupt registry value.

Just want to be sure about this: the developing seems alright because most of your machine do not have this issue, right? And it rarely happens on some of your tablets, right?

If that is the case, this best approach here may be redirect you to some pro forums which is focus on Windows 10 on technet, like https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?category=Windows10ITPro

They may have more experience on the registry issue on OS.

    Best regards,

    Barry
