The Fixit software deactivated my product. I had to re-validate...and it worked. Problem solved, but problem was also created by Microsoft where I didn't have one before!

Hello danshoe123,
The problem you encountered is one where the License File, created by Office Product Activation when Office XP Small Biz was first installed on your computer, became corrupted, damaged, or otherwise altered.
As far as I know, Microsoft product support has not yet nailed down why this happens. Some posters have written that it happened right after they used a "registry cleaner" or "file system cleanup" utility, but at the moment this is only anecdotal evidence at best.
As a general statement, file corruption can also happen due to malware infestations or hardware problems such as defective RAM or a defective hard disk drive.
Rgeardless of why, when the License File is corrupted or damaged, Office Product Activation is affected and Office Genuine Advantage will report a nongenuine status.
The good news is that running the FixIt seems to have a very high success rate.
