0x80070643 Error When Installing Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am caught with a continual 0x80070643 whenever I try to install the updated "Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810)" using Microsoft Update. Unfortunately, I have Windows One Care (still) and it keeps insisting (at every opportunity, like every time I log in) that I download and install that package. This is getting to be extremely annoying as I cannot make this update install properly.  Any suggestions for resolving this error would be appreciated.

My situation is that this is a very old Dell machine which I cannot afford to replace.  I had a full version of Microsoft Office 2003 once upon a time.  I was forced to upgrade to Office 2007 (when my employer upgraded, about a year ago), and (given my marginal employment situation) all I could afford was the Home and Student 2007 version.  I also have a licensed copy of Microsoft Publisher 2007 that my wife uses.

I cannot upgrade or replace the Windows XP operating system on this machine (the hardware is no longer supported).  I need to find a way out of this mess which doesn't cost me anything.  Thanks in advance for any valid suggestions you might have.

  • Hello Elbonian,

Your Windows XP Pro, Office Home and Student 2007, and Publisher 2007 are all reporting as Genuine installations, so no worries there.

Recently those posters who are having difficulties with the OGA Notification Update usually are experiencing a problem with Scheduled Tasks.  This is easy to check so let's start there.

From Control Panel, [Peformance and Maintenance], select Scheduled Tasks.  If there is a scheduled task on the list that has "oga" as part of the file name, delete it, restart the computer, then visit Windows Update to see if the Update is available for reinstallation.
