2.1 Synctool very slow RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just tried using synctool 2.1 x64 on Windows 7. This is my first time using this tool. My basic usage of the tool is to copy data from my harddrive to my USB drive. This seems to be taking very very long. Just to give you e.g. I am trying to copy close to 50GB of data from my hard drive to USB drive and it is going on for 36 hours and still going on. Looks like may be 50% is complete. On other hand when I backed up Windows image using Windows backup (part of Windows 7 professional edition) on NAS drive it took around 3 hours with 100GB of backup. I also tried to transfer couple of TB (yes TB) of data from same NAS drive to same USB drive (that I am using for Sync) and it took around 48 hours.

So not sure what is the reason for being very slow with synctool 2.1.

    Will appreciate any help

  • Hi Sghayal,

Sorry about that. SyncToy needs to do a bunch of work initially to prepare for synchronization (for example, create the metadata, compare the files and handle constraints), which slows down the initial sync. However, after the first sync, it will become very fast because SyncToy can detect the changes (add/modify/remove) and only send the changes between folder pairs. You no longer need to wait for hours to copy data or backup files manually again.

Give it one more *sync* and let us know how you like it.

    Thanks,
    Nina

  • Thanks Nina,

I will wait for this Sync to complete may be couple of more days.

Out of 56GB 33GB is on the backup so should not be long now. :-)

    Cheers,
