How do I post a bug when I cannot login? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an ID that just cannot login properly, I've tried and tried... It was working fine on the old forums. I've created this dummy one just to cry for help.

I find an interesting post, click reply, get asked to login, then get the post page again. It indicates that I am logged in, it shows my ID and display name. I click Reply again, I see the Windows Live redirect "Continue" page very briefly then I’m back to the post page, but not logged in. I click reply again, and we start again.

This happens on three different PCs, IE7 or FFox, and I've cleared cookies and all settings etc on both. Display name DarrenSQLIS, soon to no longer be an MVP because I cannot post.

BTW this posting "dialog" keeps getting chopped of the bottom of the page. Scrolling down just keeps it fixed wrongly, at the bottom - note this line I cannot see as it is now off the page. Sometimes it fixes itself, others not.

  • For the last part, what browser/OS/resolution are you using?

  • Hi,

I'm afraid I'm having exactly the same problem as Darren. I can log in just fine using my ID but when I click on a post to reply or even when I try to post a new question (which I did about this issue) then I am imediately kicked out to the log in screen. So I log back back in and try again and the same thing happens.... rinse, repeat, etc....

This is happening both on my work PC (Windows XP Pro SP2 with IE7 and Firefox 2) and my home machine (Windows XP Home (don't laugh) SP3 with IE7)

I have had to create a 'throwaway' Hotmail account to post this message, so I assume there's nothing wrong with my machine and that the issue is with my Windows Live ID.

Can anyone suggest a fix, other than to continue using this temporary acount ?

  • Have you tried deleting cookies and temporary Internet files and then restarting the browser?

  • Hi,

I haven't tried that with IE but I have just tried logging in using my regular LiveID using Opera 9.63 (which I am 100% sure I have never used to browse the Technet forums) and the exact same thing happened - login first, click reply on a post and I am immediately logged back out.

To confirm this I cleared out all private data in Opera and tried again - I can login successfully using my regular Live ID but as soon as I try to reply to a post I am dumped back out.

If you like I can take a screen capture of this actually happening and upload it to my web site for you to view ?

    Regards,

  •   Try editing your profile (in a very minor way), and saving it.  Apparently some of the profiles get corrupted from time to time, but the save should "refresh" it.

  • I made a slight change to my profile and it appears to have worked - I'm posting this using my preferred Windows Live ID. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

  • Thank you! The profile edit seems to have done the tick.

For the dialog issue, browser is 7.0.5730.11CO, OS is XP SP2 5.1.2600.

I assume that's IE? And your screen resolution?

  • Yes, IE 7. Resolution is 1280 x 1024.

Today I had another issue where I could not complete the logon. When Windows Live redirected back I just got a blank/white page. Tried several times, then switched to FireFox. FireFox 3.0.5 is actually much better, no layout issues and logon worked when IE did not.

I'm hoping we'll have this particular issue/workaround resolved later today.

  • Thanks for letting us know, Rob.  It definitely makes the issues easier to deal with when we know that there's an end in sight ;)
