New to Live Mesh-Question About Sharing Files or Folders with Others

Question
-
I just installed Live Mesh a few days ago and I like it very much. The Live Remote Desktop is great for synching changes to multiple files (like dissertation chapter drafts). I like how files show up on the LRD as soon as I save them on my local drive. My question is if I wanted my advisor to have access to my changes for review, would I have to email the local copy or can I grant access to LRD folders (as with Skydrive)? Does the person with whom you want to share files have to have Live Mesh installed? If so, I have Windows 7 32-bit, she has XP 32-bit. Does Mesh work with XP?
My only suggestion so far More gig space (Maybe at least as much as Skydrive)
XP Mode is nice, too :).
Thanks!

You can share a folder with another user and set permissions for that folder. They can access the folder via their Live Desktop at www.mesh.com or they can install the client to sync the folder with their local PC. If they choose not to install the client, they will have access via the Live Desktop for their LiveID.

OK, but a bit more clarification please. If one user ( the XP user) does not have Live Mesh installed (and so has no LRD), can I share a Mesh folder with them and how can they access it? If they have or create a Windows Live ID, can they access my shared material with their ID?Wednesday, April 7, 2010 7:20 PM

They need to have a LiveID and they need to sign in at www.mesh.com - they will have a Live Desktop on mesh.com, but they will not have any local folders shared from their PC to the Live Desktop. They will access the folder by signing in at www.mesh.com

This may sound stupid, but it's a common doubt: i've synched my home PC and my work PC. But when i try to access one from the other i can't, because i need to also be at the computer i'm trying to sync with to accept the process... Isn't there a way to say "always accept syncing from this PC automaticly", like with cell pones?
thnx

You should not need to be able to be at the other PC. When Live Mesh remote desktop connects, there is a delay while a dialog displays to the logged in user and then the connection is established for you to log in if there is no response. I don't recall the exact delay, but it is about a minute.

I currently have Live Mesh configured to Sync my Work computer with my Home computer. It works great except one of the folders on my Work computer is a Public (shared) Folder that I share with several other Users in my office. From my Home computer, if I open and save a file from the Shared Folder on my Work computer the files icon gets a little padlock on it. I can still access the files like normal from my work computer but none of the other work computers in the network can see or access the file. What causes this and how can I fix it?

Oh, well, when i tryed to connect the 2 PCs at home (Laptop to a Desktop), one of them shoed a text box asking me to give permission to the other one to connect.
Then i just took my Laptop to work, tryed from there, and it worked.
Maybe you need to accept the sync one first time?
Thank you for the reply :)

Srazuser - the padlock icon is a Windows 7 thing. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/lock-padlock-icon-files-folders-windows-7/#more-1033
Live Mesh synchronizes the file with the permissions of the file locally unchanged. So, if the local folder is not public, the permissions are inherited when you create/save/modify the file locally. When it syncs to the other PC, in the public folder, it retains the permissions it had locally on the source machine. You might want to try making the local folder public/everyone and see if that resolves it.
