IE & O/S Versions.

Question
-
I have been having trouble accessing the forums since Upgrading to a Newer machine. On the newer system (Win XP Pro SP3 with IE 8.0.6001.18702) when I enter my Logon Info and click OK. The page goes blank and the progress bar starts spinning ...and.... and ... That's it no error no time out Nothing... I also get the same when trying another machine setup the same or a even newer Windows 7 machine. However when Using a Windows 2K with IE 6.0.2800 (as I am now) I can get in and post things. So what are the newer machines unable to do that the older one can???? I would really like to be able to use the new machine.... Thanks for your time...yoR

Talked with the vendor of our Virus software and they gave me a Beta copy of their latest version and it solved my problem... Had to do with the cookie error the firewall was coughing up.

OK I have been testing this out in an effort to find a solution.. Well No solution but a number of observations. First the problem is with the Forums. I can logon to Technet and move around such as access the downloads, as long as I don't try to access the forums.. then the page just goes blank. If I am logon on to my XP WS as an admin I will get this error from our Firewall:
.Request denied by WatchGuard HTTP proxy. Reason: request-line invalid line='Cookie: A=I&I=AxUFAAAAAAByCAAA5xdylAlANdyzjUOBvAeMUA!!&GO=39&CS=116f4L00031XB00&M=1; WT_FPC=id=207.164.4.90-838073312.30132553:lv=1307111048140:ss=1307110994446; MUID=195DE9C532656EE51DACE85036656E78; MSID=Microsoft.CreationDate=02/10/2011 17:37:36&Microsoft.LastVisitDate=06/03/2011 18:24:49&Microsoft.VisitStartDate=06/03/2011 18:24:49&Microsoft.CookieId=6a8c67c4-e857-4386-8752-8fb63a723e4f&Microsoft.TokenId=88afae9a-c2bc-4243-8058-aad6aa45eb62&Microsoft.NumberOfVisits=16&Microsoft.IdentityToken=5U4xQXurOF765HgkMb4GXd4UlWVSnaR6HnEIHT97FC4g9kL+p82WMkjM3Ga4NiuK4a2pa2+FbMS3qPbLX1G8QfQhsCuYDO/WQKCPELU565Ts9nUcyoajxKh0xWwgE+9JGy05zB8MEa9vRug8kePc7xOw6O1R0ipsP3prmposj7WAQ/KauapE7EGUwTCrL7F88XT/uXA1pmOR4bXBH7qrWsYKmiGdC/dZKruCUegooLRSJpjRdvId+E1JlbXL2kqclYK6JST1uJ6t2VzdEoDkof21zoqRe47z97RByf4Txh+9dg2BcHib6IYQQkRxDq0wQVcadOgS1vUixFahPW+PitxaRjipG9VbISLfYnGwv6NjtONA2wdOifMBkPxwOKx+oRw0dwE2kDoIF66nrUAmet1W/yGLpoXKI1cmZfcLHC4HRwgZCm5tOODjGt+YHg9RC+2cjYIrNv0gVmZXBQD8wsbbmTTqG8+GbX' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Method: Host: 65.55.11.254 Path: .....................................
And before anyone belames the Firewall I also tried from outside the firewall and I got this error:
Bad Request - Invalid Verb -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HTTP Error 400. The request verb is invalid
I have also delete the files and cookies... many times. I have added all the Microsoft (technet, live etc.,) sites to my trusted list and no change. From my XP SP3 machine with IE8 I cannot access the forums from with a Win 2k Machine using IE6 no problems. I have also tested on a second XP SP3 machine as well as a Windows 7 machine same problem. So any ideas anyone? So what is different? What do I need to change? -

get the same when trying another machine setup the same or a even newer Windows 7 machine.
With IE8 you can try using InPrivate browsing mode. Press Ctrl-Shift-P.---

OK tried the InPrivate route and everything just went the same... When I try to access any of the forums the Browser just goes into waiting mode and stays there. I go outside and have a smoke come back ten minutes later and the page is still trying to load.
Then either I get the http 400, page not found, check your typing.
Or
Bad Request - Invalid Verb
HTTP Error 400. The request verb is invalid
Or the firewall tells me
request-line invalid line='Cookie: A=I&I=AxUFAAAAAAByCAAA5...etc., etc., etc.,
I have tried different machines (Win7, XP, Win2k) both inside the firewall and out side. I tried my old Win 2K machine at home last night and it never got to the forums pages either. So it appears that the machine (Win 2K server, freshly rebuilt) I am currently typing this on is the only machine by which I can access the forums.
It would really be nice to sort this out... Any ideas out there? -

Well as the problem also occurs when using Firefox and a search of the suggested link only pulls up one question with issues like mine and it is unanswered. Not too sure it helps.
But thanks anyway..
The real problem is the lack of errors to go on.. -

Can you try adding both the http: and the https: versions of the domain to the trusted sites? I'd like to see if that has any impact.

Got https://*.microsoft.com & http://*microsoft.com in the trusted sites....No difference.Either it just hangs or I get the Cookie and Invalid line error...

Spoke with one of our devs. Since firefox also breaks, it may not be the problem we think it is. can you get a fiddler trace through the entire login process? When doing this you would need to turn on fiddlers HTTPS decryption. If you could get a fiddler trace for the failure, put it on skydrive so we can get to it, this would really help get us closer to resolving this. Thanks!

OK. Loaded Fiddler. But Not sure what or how to post here.... Or what Skydrive is? -
Ran a few tests with Fiddler and looks the same.
Inside our firewall Fiddler shows the same Cookie error...

<hr><p>HTTP Error 400. The request verb is invalid.</p>
</BODY></HTML>And I have tried Other machines and get the same... For some reason this one Windows Server 2000 is the only machine I can access the forums from. I have also figured out the Skydrive so If posting more Fiddler stuff will help I can..
It is just too strange... Any ideas Anyone???

OK more testing and info (incase anyone is interested).
Just pulled a NEW XP machine out of the box and was able to log in and post this.
So to date I have tried 7 machines (Win2k WS, Win2k Server, XP & Win7) and four Browsers (IE 6, IE 7, IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.8). On 5 machines I can not logon to the forums and usually get an Invalid Cookie/line error.
The Common factor seems to be that the Two machines that are able to connect are Brand New Installs, nothing else installed as yet, first time on the Internet and so far only used for TechNet.
This has got to tell us something??????
Please???

Inside our firewall Fiddler shows the same Cookie error...
HTTP/1.0 400 Bad request: request-line invalid
Content-type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1"<html>
<body>
<h3> Request denied by CHMIT WatchGuard HTTP proxy. </h3>
Are you using HTTP 1.0 (because of your firewall)? Can you avoid that? Also, how are you bypassing your firewall? Is it a software firewall? If so, you may have to uninstall it to completely disable its effects.

I am using HTTP 1.0 because it was a default thing. And I did try with it disabled and no difference.I get out side the Firewall by connecting the WS to the external router and giving it an Internet IP. Local (software) firewall disabled.
Thanks for asking.
And to throw another symptom out there the New XP machine I connected with yesterday is today showing the same Invalid Cookie error. What changed? I loaded our Virus software on to it (ESET Nod32)
.

OK Yor36 here using the secondary account I created to test this problem. As to the above I have just uninsatlled the Virus software from My main WS and I am now able to get in and post this.
OK found the problem But not happy... No way I am staying online with No Virus Protection... Catch yea All Later.

So Microsoft and ESET need to figure out what they're doing with the Cookies...

Perhaps, then, you should consider different AV software?
Or, perhaps ask the publisher of your AV software's technical support about settings that will allow access to the forums?
Although I used Avast for years, I gave Microsoft Security Essentials a try on one machine when it first came out. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent protection and have been using it on all my PC's for some time. Best of all, it's free :-)

Well as the problem also occurs when using Firefox and a search of the suggested link [http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie] only pulls up one question with issues like mine and it is unanswered...
You could always begin your own, new thread in the IE forum about your computer & your problems. You will find support for Firefox in this forum: http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php?c=4

Talked with the vendor of our Virus software and they gave me a Beta copy of their latest version and it solved my problem... Had to do with the cookie error the firewall was coughing up.
