Windows Home Server and Remote Access

Question
-
After setting up WHS, I find that one of my computers is unavailable for remote access.
This unit is running Win XP Home Edition.
Please accept my apologies in advance if the question has been ask before.
Is it possible to use R/A on this computer without upgrading to XP pro or better.

Microsoft deliberately does not include Remote Desktop features in XP Home. Thus you cannot remote access into the system.
There are topics on this, but really you would have to blame someone other than the Home Server team about this. It is not their decision.Wednesday, April 9, 2008 10:20 PM -
Only certain versions of Windows support incoming Remote Desktop connections:
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows XP Media Center Edition
- Windows XP "Enterprise" (which is just Professional with a different licensing scheme, IIRC)
- Windows Vista Business
- Windows Vista Enterprise
- Windows Vista Ultimate

Hi,
There are plenty of free/paid options available to get around this, from RealVNC to LogmeIn. If you do a search, you will find numerous threads.

And Vista is no different. You need Ultimate to connect into your home computer from remote locationsFriday, April 11, 2008 8:47 PM
