I POSTED THE REPORT AS REQUESTED,

AFTER I HAD MY COMPUTER REPARED(BURNT GRAPHICS CARD RESULTING IN A DAMAGED MOTHERBOAR LEADING TO SUBSTITUTION OF MOTHERBOARD, NOW WINDOWS VISTA ASKS ME TO ACTIVATE..

    NOTE :

-I HAVE TRIED INSERTING PRODUCT KEY TO NO AVAIL

-THE OPTION FOR ACTIVATION BY PHONE ISN'T VISIBLE

    ADDITIONAL INFO:

I CALLED MICROSOFT WHO REDIRECTED ME TO HP SAYING THE ACTIVATION IS BLOCKED DUE TO THE FACT MY MOTHERBORD IS GONE.

->I CALLED HP HELP DESK AND THEY BOLDLY TOLD ME THAT MY PC BEING ABOT 6 YEARS OLD ISN'T BEING FIXED BY THEM NO MORE AND GIVEN THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOARD THE ONLY SOLUTION IS I BUY A NEW ONE ...

I FEEL INSULTED AS BUYING A HP(M9170) MEANT I ALSO BOUGHT THE LICENCE FOR WINDOWS IN MY VIEW SO WHY IS IT THAT NOW THAT THERE BOARD BURNT AND I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT FIXED THE BLOCK ME FROM WHAT IS MEANT TO BE MY PROPERTY ...HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS, IS THERE A WAY I MAKE THE PHONE ACTIVATION APPEAR AND ACTIVATE MY WINDOWS AGAIN?

  • You have an OEM OS install.  OEM copies are licensed only for the hardware on which they were originally installed.  Your new retail motherboard does not contain the SLIC Table in the BIOS required to self activate.  The solution is to purchase a Retail version of Windows 7 (or Windows 8) and perform a clean install (be sure to back up your files first!).  You could also try changing the Key to the one on your COA sticker - it's then up to Microsoft as to whether they will allow the activation.  But that is not guaranteed by any means.

  • from what i understand, its possible microsoft dont accept to activate me meaning i have to buy a new retail os...well lets see if someone has had the same issue. thank you for the help ...sad how it all works

  • That's why Retail license for Windows are much more expensive than OEM licenses - they not only have the ability to survive the death of a computer, they are entitled to limited support direct from MS.
