CPC bid .25 ....my avarage cost = .44...enlighten me please!!!

  I set my maximum bid at .25 and i have recieved over 100 clicks today...why is it charging me more then my max bid?

  The reports say my average cpc is 44 cents???? ...i am new to adCenter ....Am I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?..

   

  am i paying for more then one keyword per click?...some of my keywords are 2 words long, a two word phrase

   

  Help!!!
