Office validation problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using Office Enterprise 2007 which was pre-installed on my laptop.  I have used it since Feb 2008 without any problems but now when I open Outlook I get a message : Microsoft Genuine Advantage.  Please excuse this interruption.  This copy of Office did not pass validation.  Click Learn More for online details and help identifying the best way to get genuine Microsoft Office.  When I went through the control panel and looked at the programs loaded on the machine, Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 AND Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007are on the list with an installation date of 04/09/2009.  I haven't installed any Office software since purchasing the machine so how has this happened? All the other programs that came with the machine have an installation date of 08/02/2008.  Any help will be most appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

As you saw when looking thru the list of installed programs, you seem to have two installations of Office on your Toshiba computer, Office Enterprise 2007 and Office Home and Student 2007.

Office Enterprise 2007 is the one that is showing up as nongenuine, as you can see in the bold-faced type above.

Your installation of Office Home and Student 2007 is showing as Genuine.

I think the easiest way to fix the problem is to simply uninstall Office Enterprise 2007.  After that, restart the computer twice, then go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on Validate Office to update the Notifications Utility.  Once updated, the Notifications Utility should only see the genuine Office H&S and it will not display any more messages about nongenuine software.

Post back to let us know how it all works out! :-)

  • Dan.  Afraid this didn't help - the correct option was already selected.  When I tried to open Outlook a short while ago I got a message This operation failed due to an installation problem.  Restart Outlook and try again.  If the problem persists please reinstall.  I rebooted the pc but I still can't open Outlook so have no mail facility.  Do you have any other ideas of what I might try please?  I do appreciate you looking at this for me coz it's sending me round the twist!

  • Hello nannapat,

I am afraind your issue at the moment, trying to find a way to uninstall Office Enterprise 2007, is much more of a general Office problem than it is an Office Genuine Advantage problem.

Hopefully you might find answers to the uninstallation issue in this Office support forum:  http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.office.setup&lang=en&cr=US
