  • Hello rccla,

If Carey's steps do not resolve your issue, please go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click the "Validate Windows" button. If there are any problems, look to the lower left of the page for a light gray error code similar to this [0xc004c4a8]. Record this code then run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report and the error code, into a response message in this thread.

    Thank you,

  • My computer is displaying "an unauthorized change in windows" and it brought me to this website.  I have been going through this for two days.  Yesterday i reset the computer back to settings when it did work correctly and this morning the message reappeared.  I followed your steps and this is the code it gave me.  I hope that you can help me out.  Does it matter if I have Vista?  Because that what I have.

  • When my pc boots up I get a "unauthorized change has been made to windows" message and select "learn more online".

The only sensible option I get is to Validate Windows..... which fails.

I have no access to anything except the internet - and eventually I have found this page.... and followed your instructions.

    Help please.............

(not sure how I will know if/when you have helped - but I will stay logged in for a while in hope!!!
