Duplication Not Working (Cross Post)

Question

Hi,
I'm running into a problem with folder duplication not working AT ALL and posted a detailed description over here:
http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4343&p=37650#p37650
I'm hoping someone from the various WHS forums can help shed some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance!Friday, May 15, 2009 1:57 AM

AD is definitely not supported on WHS. WHS can exist in a domain environment, but it cannot be part of a domain. Your server will reboot every hour or two. You should reinstall WHS and don't set it up in a domain.
Actually AD is not allowed on WHS, and there's also mechanisms in place to discourage use of WHS as domain server or member as kariya21 already pointed out.
About the duplication problem, logs tell you "in OOBE mode, skipping migration pass", so possibly your copy of WHS has not (yet) been activated and you have passed the 30-day grace period, or the dcpromo caused the server to go back/ believe it's in oobe mode (running whsoobe at startup). Could also be setup was not finished properly for some reason so the server still thinks it's in oobe mode even though you finished setup.
There are ways to get AD running properly, however since this is clear violation of the EULA best thing for you to do would probably be server reinstall, and then don't install AD or join WHS to domain.- Marked as answer by Lara JonesModerator Saturday, June 13, 2009 5:33 PM

First, you should post the details here (in addition to the other website).
Having said that, A) the Size on Disk no longer applies to WHS anymore and B) Toolkit 1.0 does not work with WHS anymore. (You shouldn't be looking at threads that are at least a year old. :) ) What add-ins do you have installed? Any apps installed on the server (which, by the way, is unsupported)?Friday, May 15, 2009 3:58 AMModerator -

What are the version numbers in the console under settings>resources.

kariya21: Good too know, too bad Toolkit v1.0 isn't supported anymore, seemed to have a lot more useful features.
Lara Jones: I've attached a screenshot to the other post (I can't easily add pictures with this forum). As far as it seems, everything is the most up-to-date version.
General: I have the following Add-Ins installed:
-) WHS Disk Management
-) Duplication Info
-) TwonkyMedia (came preinstalled with the HP MSS).
-) Toolkit v1.1
-) HP MSS Online Backup (came preinstalled too)The 3 non-preinstalled add-ins I installed after the problem exhibited itself in attempts to help troubleshoot.
The only other important piece of info which I don't think is causing it but I'm sure you'll frown upon is I installed and setup Active Directory on the WHS. I honestly can't remember if the problem was showing itself before and after the AD setup.
I'm willing to scrog the WHS and start over fresh to see if that would help. That would eliminate all AD pieces too. I'm just tentative because I don't want to lose the data on the server, but it looks like if I did a Server Recovery/Restore, the Data (shares) should remain in tact. Is that correct?
I also posted an update on the other thread that there isn't anything out of the normal in the server log files. The only curious part is the drive extender log file (after restarting the service) has the following:
[5/16/2009 6:15:50 PM 7c8] Migratable extensions are: *.*
[5/16/2009 6:15:50 PM 7c8] Included folders for duplication are: \folders\{378AE094-F4CA-4D9B-BDA5-649D6F738276}\ \shares\Music\

[5/16/2009 6:16:11 PM 127c] ...in OOBE mode, skipping migration pass
It just ends like that. It doesn't give any indication that the DE is actually doing anything which seems to be the problem!
Thoughts? I think I'll wipe the system tomorrow and start over just to prove/disprove that AD is affecting this issue. Based on the other thread, there are 2 other people who seem to have the same problem, so I'm going to see if they too setup AD on their WHS.
Thanks for any help!Saturday, May 16, 2009 11:42 PM -
