Microsoft Office Pro 2003 validation failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I just downloaded and installed several (Windows) updates for XP Home and Office Pro 2003.  The new validation tool worked normally and the updates installed normally.

However, I tried to do the same thing with Office Update, but I keep getting a Validation Incomplete for Microsoft FrontPage 2002 and Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003.  In addition, Office Must Be Activated message is displayed.  The error code is 0x80180101

I have verified All Office apps have been activated, I have deleted the data.dat file (and closed the folder), but auto validation will not start when opening an Office app and, again, all Office apps state they have already been validated.

    Here is the diagnostic report:

  • McWord,

I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing surrounding Office activation. In turn I would like to provide the following steps to try and resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to attempt resolving this issue.  Open My Computer located on your desktop

    1.      Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu and follow:  Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

    2.      Right click the data.dat file, then click “Delete”.

    3.      This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA)

    4.      Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and “ACTIVATE” it.

    5.      If product activation was successful try the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA). Please launch the following link and begin the OGA process again: (this is the OGA part; Office Genuine Advantage):  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=eng

  • As I noted in my initial post, I ensure that the .dat files were deleted (actually, there weren't any).  After I closed the folder, I still experienced validation failures.

However, the next time I opened a MS Office application (after a reboot), I was prompted to validate both FrontPage and MS Office Pro 2003.

    Both validations were successful.

    Thx for your help!!

  • This post helped with my office XP validation, but I'm now getting the same message on PowerPoint 2002. Were is the .dat file on PowerPoint 2002 as I purchased it separate from the Office XP Small Business Edition.

  • Never mind I found my answer by opening PowerPoint 2002 separately and the activation process came up again, I activated the PowerPoint 2002 and then everything validated correctly.
