My Site not being indexed, no show on live but Adcenter adverts say they show? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My site is not being indexed, No issues in Webmasters tools, 0 show in LIVE but my adverts are saying they show up, although I can't find them when I search.

How long do you normally have to wait for a site to be indexed?

    Cheers,

  • You may get a few pages indexed in a few weeks, but the majority of your site will never be indexed.

  • Hi Bruce,

How old is your site? Have you read the FAQs located at the top of this and the Ranking forums? I noticed your site wasn't canonicalized. By canonicalizing your site, you will potentially increase your rank by not splitting site rank between the www and non-www versions of your site. If you have Adcenter specific questions, you may want to take a look at our Adcenter Community http://adcentercommunity.com/Default.aspx.

  • Hi Brett,

The site is about 3 month old but has been around for about 10 years in one way or another. Just rebuilt it and transfered it to a new host in September 2008.
I have read the faqs and I have followed them as best i could.
I cannot create a 301 page with my hosting company but i hoped MS Live search engine Bot would figure URL's out.
The Ad center issue will not be fixed until i can find my site on live search but it's not even been indexed yet.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Bruce.

  • Bruce,

I think we may have hit on something. It is possible your robots.txt is blocking us due to your site being accessable using /index.php?

You have that blocked in your rep to disallow /index.php?=App

Problem is, ? is a wildcard in the REP

    As borrowed from janeandrobot.com:

Selectively allow access to a URL that matches a blocked pattern - Use the Allow directive in conjunction with pattern matching for more complex implementations.

    # Block access to URLs that contain ?

    # Allow access to URLs that end in ?

    User-agent: *

    Disallow: /*?

    Allow: /*?$

That directive blocks all URLs that contain ? except those that end in ?.

In this example, the default version of the page will be indexable:

Variations of the page will be blocked:

    • http://www.example.com/productlisting.aspx?sort=alpha

Maybe adding the allow statement will help in your case...

  • Hi Brett,

OK added this to the robots.txt

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /*?
    Allow: /*?$

    Now we wait.

    Cheers,
    Bruce.
