reinstalling windows xp RRS feed

  •

I have been given a laptop that was bought from Dell with windows xp installed, however the laptop got a bit messed up and had to have a new hard drive put in so I lost all my programmes. I have been told that the product key on the bottom of the laptop (on the Dell Windows XP Home Edition sticker) will allow me to reinstall Window XP but I don't know what to do with the product key to make this happen. I'm rubbish with computers so please help me!!! Thanks x

  • Hello Jordy,

Did you receive the original recovery software with the laptop? This will be your first step. You will need the recovery software to restore your system back to factory settings. Also the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or as you said the Dell Windows XP Home Edition sticker) must match the version of software which is on your recovery software disc. Please contact Dell Technical Support and request how to order the recovery software discs for your model system. I have included their contact information here for your convenience:  800- 624-9896

Recovery CD’s are specific to your computer manufacturer. They should be able to assist with your request and/or questions. Since the telephone number and web sites are not maintained by Microsoft we cannot make any warranty as to their validity.  Another alternative may be to visit Dell Community Forums @ http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/. Maybe you can search for replace a lost Dell system restore disk.

    Thank you,
