External USB not found RRS feed

  • Question

  • OneCare no longer backs up my files. I have been successfully backing up my files for a while. I have changed the OneCare backup settings and have not had success with that. OneCare does not see my external hard drive - it is looking for the external drive as drive D:,my external hard drive is actually drive F:.  Windows explorer can see my F: drive and I can write to the drive as well. I can see my previous OneCare backup files on the F: drive. I submited the OneCare log files two days ago and have not heard back.
Vista Business edition 32bit with SP1 on a Lenovo T61 Thinkpad with 4GB memory, 105GB hard disk with Intel Turbo cache enabled and Maxtor OneTouch4 500GB USB drive.
Any thoughts on what might be causing the problem?

  • Did you perform the steps in this post? http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/5f18a60d-add4-4ff2-87cf-021db7e81917

That resets the backup plan. If it is looking for a drive at the wrong location, that indicates to me that you need to reset the plan.

If you are unable to do that or it doesn't work, please contact support.

  • Thanks, I have done both of these steps. It has been two days since I created a ticket with support and I have not heard anything.

  • If support has not responded to your submission, please post the number here and I can have someone look into it. You might also want to look in your junk mail folder. If you are a subscriber, you may want to consider calling instead of using email support.

In addition, if backup is still looking for D: when the drive you are using is F:, then you did not successfully reset the backup plan.
Turn backup off. Save the revised plan of no backup. Configure backup again and point to the drive you wish to use. It will be a new full backup.
