Master-detail sync'ing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm just starting to look at the MSF, so you'll be getting a lot of questions from me, I suspect.

One of the first questions that pops into mind is how two tables representing a master-detail relationship are sync'd?  Does this just "magically" happen because the synchronization occurs in the same sequence (via the timestamp) as in the original database?

    Thanks!

    Marc

  • Hi Marc,

Let's say you are using timestamp columns to track changes in you master and details tables. Since an insert in master will have a timestamp that is lower than that of the detail table, you can be sure that you will get the PK row first before the FK row. Now you might ask what would happen if after the insert you updated the PK row so that it have a higher timestamp than the FK row? To address this you will need to have a create timestamp column as well.

    Thanks
