GPS on HP netbook210 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have purchased a HP netbook 210 with installed GPS and navigator program. The navigator program is not satisfactory. Can I use regular Streets and Trips with the installed GPS or will I have to purchase the S & T with GPS?

  • Hi JKF,

Generally speaking, Streets & Trips isn't tied in any way to the Microsoft's GPS receiver. The program works perfectly fine with a large number of 3rd party GPS units, as long as they:

    - output NMEA signal

    - output the signal at the rate of 1Hz

    - and use 4800 baud rate

Some GPS units built into laptops use higher baud rate, and Streets & Trips will not recognize anything other that 4800. Usually this is easily corrected by installing a small software application called Gps Gate.

  • Thanks for the info. When I realized a 60 day trial was available, I downloaded it and the program does work with the installed GPS on the HP mini 210 netbook. I'll keep you info incase I have any problems.
