Employee-program purchased laptop now says Office is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • This laptop was purchased through the HP Employee Purchase program.  When "not genuine" messages first appeared, we couldn't find the original CDs. Now that we have found them, we can't get the validation tool to request the CDs for validation. Help!

  • Hello Molinem,

    Here is a snippet of the mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 103 Blocked VLK
    Microsoft Office XP Professional - 103 Blocked VLK
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

    The report is telling us that your HP/Compaq computer has a nongenuine Volume Licensing installation of Office XP Professional installed.  The product key is "Blocked" meaning the Key was at one time a valid Volume Licensing Key issued to a larger business, educational or governmental organization, but now the key is blockd because it may have been lost, stolen, compromised to the internet, or the Volume Licesning Agreement uder which the key was issued may have expired.

    Here's what to do:

    1.  Uninstall Office XP Pro from the Add or Remove applet of Control Panel.  Restart.

    2.  Run the MS FixIt Utility in Method 2 of  this MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275 article to delete the Office XP license file.  Restart.

    3.  Do a fresh installation of Office XP with the discs and product key that you have.  Restart.

    4.  Open Word and you should be presented with the Activation Wizard.  Activate online normally.  Restart.

    5. Keeping Office XP programs closed for the moment, go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Office XP should validate normally.

    6.  Rerun the mgadiag utility and post a fresh report reflecting the new installation of Office XP.

    If you cannot complete any of the steps above, post back with details of the situation and provide error messages if any.
