Files not accessible: "Live Mesh Placeholder Files" - HELP???? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently downloaded over 3 GBs of MS content into my mesh folder for a client's project...invited a new person to this folder, who, in an effort to reorganize is, did something either of us is clear on, that caused erroneous news entries, and now, the files all appear as Live Mesh Placeholder files and are not accessible either from my desktop or online.  Please help???  Someone??? Anyone????  My live ID:  v-viccle_at_microsoft.com.

  • Without knowing what the other person did, it's hard to say why you are now seeing placeholders, but the files, if deleted, should exist in the Recycle Bin on your PC.
And, this is unfortunately after the fact, but since Live Mesh is a beta, you should never entrust data that is critical to you and not backed up to another location to it.

EDIT: I just realized that you are a Microsoft employee - there is an internal alias for you to contact that will help you.

  • Hey there....appreciate the internal tip!  Indeed the files were in my recycle bin...now the long process of restoring...but not as long as starting over :)  Apparently the files were moved prior to synching being completed - I understand this being addressed in the next release.   Thanks so much....have a great week!   ....v

  • You're welcome and glad that you were able to recover from the near disaster. :-)
And, backup - backup - backup!
