Multiple LAN Ports? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have built a custom home server it has the following specs:

    450Watt Power Supply
AMD Sempron 2.0GHz single core processor
    512MB Ram (DDR2 800
    2-500GB WD Hard Drive
    1-750GB WD Hard Drive
    Cooler Master Case (Ammo 533)
ECS KA3 MVP (V1.0A) Motherboard by ECS Elite Group

All hard rives are hooked up via SATA 3.0 Ports.

The question is as follows my mothorboard has 2 Cat5 Network ports on it would it benefit transfer speed to plug cables to both?

Answers

  • No, it won't benefit your transfer speed (unless your switch and network card support port/link aggregation, which is very unlikely).

Connect an Ethernet dsl or cable modem on one port, your network on the other is a common scenario
