OFF TOPIC: Password issue

  One hour ago, I set up a password (Windows XP).  It is a password that I commonly use.  However, when I re-started my laptop, it wouldn't accept the password.  I tried many combinations.  However, it is very unlikely that I'm using the wrong password because I had to enter and re-enter it.  This is not an ownership issue.  It is my laptop and name still appears on the screen.  What can I do?
