WHS > Windows Server 2003 Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think I might have just lost a lot of data so I could really do with some

So I had a computer with Windows Home Server on it, has an 80gig HD and 2
    500gigs in it.

20gig is the system volume for WHS and then the 60 left and the 2 500 drives
have one extended volume on them.  The beta version of WHS expired so I just
installed windows server onto the old system volume (the 20gig one).

Problem is, I can now see the files in explorer, but when you try and open
them it can't access them.  I've tried everything I can think of in disk
management but I can't get at them.  In disk management it even shows the
free space on the drives and says they have data on them.

    Any advice?

I've now given each of the drives a letter (e and f).  And I can see all the files now.  But its no longer one big volume so half the folders are in one drive and half the folders the other.  Least I can now access the data though!

  • What you're seeing is normal; that's how Drive Extender works. Do some more reading in the forums, and take a look at the Drive Extender technical brief.
