  • Hello D.S.K.,

Would you try the below steps and tell me how it worked for you.  Eventhough the Diag doesn't show it specifically, my feeling is that Vista's Licensing Store may be haveing a problem of some kind and these steps recreates the Store.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • Hello D.S.K.,

xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx  is the format for the Product ID.

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX is the format for the Product Key (five characters in five groups).

Your product key will be located either:

    (a)  On the Certificate of Authenticity affixed to the computer, if the computer came with Windows preinstalled from the manufacturer.  If a laptop, check the bottom or inside the battery compartment.

    (b)  On the yellow-orange Proof Of License label that came inside the retail packaging, if you purchased your Windows in a nice, pretty, full packaged product that would be sold in a retail store.

  • Hello D.S.K.,

If you do not feel comfortable trying the suggested fixes yourself, please submit a free request for email tech support for your Windows Genuine Advantage issue here:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029

The support engineers, with your permission of course, can remote into your computer to help you correct the problem.
