I have just received a notification that my Vista is possibly not genuine, I have tried all suggested routes, most of which I am finding incomprehensible, as I know nothing about how a computer works, but when I try to validate I get a message telling me that this service is not available to me, I have read your top answers and thread reports but still have problems please help.

  • Selta1,

According to the report you posted, you have XP Pro installed, not Vista Home Basic.

The installed XP Pro and the installed Office XP Pro w/Front Page are both being reported as Non-Genuine installations.  XP Pro was installed with a "KeyGen" Product Key, and Office XP was installed with a Blocked Product Key.

Please look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of  Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).  If you have one, tell us about the CoA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

  • Okay I guess my first problem maybe because I purchased my computer in China, I have a  Rose CoA, it reads, Windows Vista Home Basic Simpchn OEMAct. The store where I bought installed all software, and told me it was installing Vista in English and Office version not specified, I have returned My computer to them, but they say they have installed Genuine parts and can do no more. This not helped because of the language problems, I just need to resolve my problem as quickly and inexpesivly as possible can you give me any solutions.

  • Both your installed copies of Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office are indeed non-genuine.  Your MGA report reveals that someone installed "volume license" versions with counterfeit product keys.  Go back to the store and demand a 100% refund!

    Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0.pro

  • Thanks, this was helpful, I have been back to the shop with a chinese speaker but they still keep saying the parts are genuine and will not do anything, all I want is a system that works and I seem to be going nowhere fast except round in circles

  • In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, click on the Get Genuine button which will provide information on how to acquire a WGA Kit.
