Road Speeds for Cycling RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unhappy with how recent versions of Streets & Trips handle adjustments to road speeds. With old versions (e.g., S&T 2004), I could set the speeds numerically. Now I can only use a slider, with no indication of the road speed setting. This is important to me because...

I am a cyclist, a long-distance bike tourist. With S&T 2004, I could often find a suitable cycling route by "flipping" the driving speeds for roads, say:

    • Interstate and limited-access highways: 5 mph
    • Other highways and arterial streets: 12 mph
    • Streets: 14 mph

This method proved to be so effective that I used it to select routes for a cross-America bike trip I took with my son.

S&T 2013 has updated maps, but neither the slider method of changing road speeds nor the Preferred Road option produces good cycling routes. And so I continue to use S&T 2004.

Developers: Please put the numerical speed setting feature back into S&T!

    Thank you!
