WHS and Windows Defender RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using Defender as antispyware - installed on the C: drive of the HomeServer I have.
Are there any major issues that I should be aware of - I am hoping that WinDef will not
    'break' WHS at all?!?!?!?

  • You should only use an antivirus/antimalware product that's designed for Windows Home Server. Right now, there's a free version of BitDefender that the publisher says is okay for Windows Home Server, and there are paid versions of Avast! and Fsecure. There's also a version of McAfee that's distributed with some OEM servers, but as far as I know you can't buy and install it separately.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • My OEM supplied McAfee - the licence ran out, so I got 'ordinary' McAfee, and downloaded it to the WHS desktop - it has worked successfully.
So far, Windows Defender is doing a good job likewise - but as advised - if it's not specifically designed for WHS, you might not want to try it!
