What happens if WHS drive dies? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since WHS does not support RAID, what do we do when the primary WHS drive dies? We plan to turn on duplication so will all files be retrievable from the other HDD's if the primary WHS drive dies?

  • If duplication is turned on for all shares, then all files in your shares will be on more than one drive. This protects you from data loss due to a single drive failure, no matter what drive that is. So yes, if the system drive were to fail in such a scenario you would lose no data. You replace the system drive and perform a server reinstallation.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
