Error 0x8000247 - Update Installation failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently replaced my old hard drive with a new bigger drive. Almost immediately I got a message saying that my copy of Windows was not genuine and to download and run WindowsActivationUpdate.

When I ran this I got the message "Update installation failed. Error information - 0x8000247"

If I run Activate Windows from the start menu I am told that activation was successful. But I still keep getting told that my copy of Windows is not genuine.Obviously the new hard drive has triggered this but how to resolve the problem?

I am running Windows 7 Professional on a 64 bit machine and I have a genuine serial number for the OS.
