How to restore files from file duplication? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I turned on file duplication for all my shares, and knock on the wood, I don’t have any hard drive failure that needs file restore yet.

My question is, in the event of system drive failure and the drive needs to be replaced, how do I restore all the duplicated files from the second drive?

    Thanks

  • If you have duplication turned on for all shares, you would replace the failed system drive and perform a server reinstallation. This is a special installation mode that will preserve the data in your shares (in this case you could lose files that were in unduplicated shares, and you could lose your backup database). It does not preserve a copy of the system partition, so you will have to recreate users, reinstall add-ins, and re-join home computers to the server.
