Hiding a Folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can you hide a folder within a public folder?  What would happen if you right clicked and chose hidden?  Any items in the public folder means they are available to all usernames or it means they are available to the web?

Also regarding WebFoldersShare, if you delete a folder from there that doesn't mean it's removed from it's orignal source does it?

  • As Windows Home Server is designed, it is not possible to hide folders or even access different user access to a subfolder than to the main shared folder.
Public folder means, accessible to all authenticated users. Since you have to authenticate first before you can access any shared folders via Remote Access, the access via Internet is practically limited to the users with Remote Access permission.
If you mean with "WebFoldersShare" the access of folders via the Remote Access Webpage, deleting it there will also delete it on the server, of course.
Instead of using the public folders you can create a shared folder and grant read permissions to the wanted accounts to avoid such behaviour.
Best greetings from Germany and a happy year 2010
