WGA Kit

I thought that I had virus (antivirus 2009) and my PC would not reboot (it stopped loading at mup.sys). I used a CD that I received from Microsoft - Windows Advantage Kit for Windows XP Professional XP Professional Service Pack 2 - to reinstall windows and now the activation site with not accept the key from this CD. Why? The key is different from my original key. I could not find that CD. I have a Dell Dimension 2400.

Hello EMT,
To clarify you installed XP from the WGA KIT service pack 2 AND used the actual product key you received with the WGA Kit? The product key is emailed in advance prior receiving the actual WGA Kit. Have you checked your Inbox and/or possibly the Spam container? Also what version of Windows XP did you receive when you purchased the Dell Dimension 2400? You should have received a Recovery Software Disc. There are a couple options you can take. First reference the below site for additional WGA Kit information:http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/OrderHelp.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=278ceda3-fc97-4e0a-897a-ebdc7cb537fc
Review the following Knowledge Base (KB) article:

Next you may contact Dell @ (800) 624-9896 and request a Recovery Software for the model system you currently have. Also you can visit the following website:

Try to use the key on your COA or activate by telephone.

I received a new Windows install disk from Dell and was able to repair Windows. The software did not request an activation.
