    I will prefer .NET over Java mainly because of two reasons its easy two learn and implement and secondly it has a very powerful IDE(Visual Studio) so that you can do a lot with your program. But Java is demanded by most companies and only Microsoft based companies will be want you to know .net. Java has also a great advantage of being platform independent so can be run on linux environment so its usage is also increasing with the increasing popularity of linux. But in case of libraries both are very effective and have huge no. of libraries. So choose the language according to ur choice of company and time you have. And if you have enough time then then learn both it will help u a lot.
