desktop wakes for backup even when told not to RRS feed

  • Question

  • For some I reason I have not been able to determine When my XP SP3 desktop wakes from hibernation there's typically a lot of disk and, I presume, processor activity to the point that it if the connector wakes it for a backup the backup times out and puts it back to "sleep". In reality it just shuts down.

I decided to uncheck the wake for backup option in connector. Now the PC still wakes, can't start the backup and actually hibernates it. When I come along and wake the PC it starts and then attempts to go into standby and actually shuts down.

How can I make sure that it doesn't try to wake?

  • Hi,
    you will either have to:
    • figure out, which process is attempting to wake up your PC (i.e. Windows Update is a good candidate),
    • apply more current drivers for the chipset (which may help in some cases),
    • shut down instead of hibernate or
    • use a power connector with a hard switch to disconnect from electrical power.
