Unable to Perform Validation on OEM Software? RRS feed

  • I am using windows xp that was the original software loaded on my notebook computer when I purchased it two years ago.

    After downloading the "validation" update it stated that my copy of windows was not valid. I know its valid because it came from the manufacturer, and becuuse I later ran the diagnostic tool stating that it was valid. (I no longer see the link to the validation diagnostic tool on the faq section).

    I did not want to deal with customer service so I did a system restore back to a date before the wga validation update. I then refused to install it whenever it was offered under the advanced settings in my windows updates. By the next day, it had installed itself anyway, without my approval.

    I am frustrated because judging from the responses on this forum this so called "validation" tool is faulty at best. Why microsoft would release this when it would cause so much problems is really beyond me. Also, I would like to know why it installed itself the second time after I DECLINED to install it as an update?

    I would like instructions on how to uninstall this validation tool, which in my opinion, is only validating my desire for purchasing a different operating system.
