Is MS Cert right for me? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know this is probably a pretty common question, but I have a unique situation.

I graduated from college in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Information Assurance. At the time, it was a new program and wasn't structured very well. Although I feel I did learn a lot, I don't feel like I learned a lot about any specific thing. A little bit of networking, but not enough to be a competent Network Engineer. A little bit about programming, but not enough to be a software engineer. So on, and so on.

Anyways, since graduation, I have gotten a job in the IT field, however, it is a project management/Technical Writing/IT Finance position. I do enjoy it, however, I would like to expand my knowledge past what I currently know, expecially since my company just recently moved to Windows 7, and we are currently in the middle of an Outlook migration.

Basically, I'm wondering, is there any MS Certification that would be right for someone like me? Looking at the MCSE requirements, and even the MCSA requirements, it looks as though I already need to have pretty vast knowledge about networking, which I don't have. Honestly, in the 3 years since graduating college, I haven't even looked at anything involving networking, and am not sure I'd even remember it.

I do plan on getting the MOS Certification, ecpecially in Outlook and Excel (those are the two big ones that our company uses), but will probably get the MOS Expert cert as well. However, is there any BIG MS Cert I can get, knowing my lack of knowledge with networking, domains, etc.

    Thanks all.
