Can't acquire IP address on wireless network - must uninstall/reinstall OneCare RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm not sure this is a firewall problem, but here goes...

    • Windows XP Pro connected to router/wireless access point (WAP) as OneCare Hub via ethernet
    • Wii, iPod Touch both connected to wireless network
    • Windows XP Home desktop connected to router/access point as a non-hub member of OneCare circle
    • WPA TKIP security
    • The XP Home machine will sometimes be unable to acquire an IP address from the router/WAP
After trying many things, I've found that uninstalling OneCare will allow this machine to obtain an IP address (192.168.1.x) and rejoin the network.  I then reinstall OneCare and the problem goes away...for awhile.

Once the problem only went away for a few days -- other times the problem goes away for weeks.  However, as soon as I see the sytem  tray icon animating the "attempting to acquire an IP address" I know what I'm in for -- uninstall/reinstall OneCare.

BTW, I know that it's not the rebooting that's fixing the problem -- I tried that many times before resorting to an uninstall/reinstall of OneCare.

Any one else seen this?   Ideas?
