bad pro copy, code shows home, bought at circuit city.. RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello,  I have had my Sony comp for about 4 years, I purchased it at Circuit city on an open box buy. It came with xp pro on it, to my knowledge, it has never been changed since in my possession, I have never had a problem running anything either, so had no reason to believe otherwise. I recently received a Zen MP3 player and went to DL my software for it and it alerted me to my illegal copy, I have gone through all the steps to see the problems, this is what the tool shows.

  • Hello aspiderfreak,

Did you receive any type of recovery media for that computer?  Since the sticker on the side says Windows XP Home, it is apparent that someone before you bought it installed a non-genuine copy of Windows on the machine.  If you have the recovery media then back up any important data and use the recovery CD to install your genuine copy of Windows XP, if you do not have the recovery media I would suggest contacting Sony directly on how to obtain a recovery CD for your machine.  Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Thank you,
