Lost files due to Sync Toy

  In March of this year I backed up my files using sync toy.  I think it was in synchonise mode but I am not sure.  The back up did not complete for some reason and I think I got a message that said it was incomplete.  I unplugged.  When I got back from Holiday I backed up again.  A month later I wanted to find a word file, the folder was on my computer but nothing was in the folder.  I looked in other folders and they were empty too.  I have about 30% of my files altogether but I cannot find the rest.  Could it be that the in synchronise mode sync toy copied back the original 30% of files to my computer and that is all I have left.  I am hoping to retrieve the files (mainly word and excel docs as there is about 10 years work in those files)  Help!
