Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10 MSDN RRS feed

  • Question

  • My son got Windows 7 Professional through his school as a download from MSDN.

As of today, the Windows 10 icon does not show on his task bar. The required KB Windows Update does show as having been installed.

Does this mean that this installatyion will not be eligible for the automatic update? If so, how should he proceed on July 29 to get the update>

  • First there is no need to "reserve" anything.  If the computer is on win 7.1 it will be offered the update starting on July 29 via windows update.  You may need to be a bit patient as there are ~1 billion devices that need the update.

I am a bit unsure about the MSDN download.  AFAIK the "school" would have to be enrolled in an MSDN subscription (fairly expensive) and MSDN serials are for a testing environment.  I would find out a bit more about the download if I were you

  • Hi,

    I'd start by asking here:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=msdnfeedback&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc

May also want to check with the school to see what their subscription covers.

  • Hello,

I'd ask in the Windows Insider Program forum on Microsoft Community.

As the Microsoft Community is on a different platform, we cannot move the question for you.

Once there, click on Participate near the top of the screen, and select 'Ask a Question' or 'Start a Discussion':
