Bogus Serial Numbers from this site - Paid For - but do not work!!!

Question
-
I recently (mid December) bought 3 copies of windows 8 pro upgrades for my 2 PCs and a laptop from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/buy
I installed them on all my PCs and they worked at first.
Later I found various pieces of software - such as The Sims Medieval, and a few other games I had would not work with Windows 8 due to compatibility issues.
I uninstalled windows 8 and reformatted putting my old copies of windows 7 back on the machines.
A few days ago the Windows 8 disks arrived in the mail.
I thought to install it on my main PC again. It installed ok, but then afterwards said I need to activate my Windows 8. It asked for the serial numbers which I supplied, copied and pasted from the emails, but Windows 8 says that they don't work.
Each serial number was sent to a different email account, and each was specifically associated with each machine, there is 0.0% chance that I have mixed these numbers up and tried to install them on a different machine.
I am using the same machine, the same serial number, and the same email account, with 100.0% certainty.
Will I have to purchase Windows 8 again because of this? What exactly is going on here? and if the numbers are truly bogus, should I contact my bank and get them to investigate who stole my money?
Very confused at the moment, please get back to me soon....

Hello,
I hope the upgrade approach will work for you. If not, best ask over here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_install , that forum covers activation issues with Windows 8 and you propably get the best replies there.

Don't think Florian's answer is the right place to ask? I think it works well enough, so I'm going to re-propose it. Because it covers activation issues.
It's pretty close.

Despite my annoyance with this - I think I have discovered what the fault is....
While mucking around with the activation it has become apparent that I did a custom install, not an upgrade.
If anyone else has this problem - try formatting and reinstalling windows 7/Vista/XP - then upgrading to windows 8 - I have not tested this, but from the message I just saw in activation - this annoying little work around may remedy your problem...
EDIT: Please excuse me and my tone - I am fairly frustrated at the moment - trying to quit smoking from 90+ cigarettes a day, and I guess it shows in this thread =(- Edited by V3ngeanc3 Tuesday, January 22, 2013 8:15 AM
